You know when you see a fabric, and you just know

You know when you see a fabric, and you just know straight away what you want it to be? That’s what happened with the @fabricgodmother Leopard Denim. Working at Fabric Godmother, I’ve been closely watching the development of this fabric, so I’ve had the idea for some time.

I knew I wanted to create a zip-up tunic dress that could be worn with a tee in summer and tights in the winter. But I couldn’t find the right pattern; none of the suggestions matched what was in my head. I ended up making my own pattern, which was a quite simple loose tunic with a waist seam and patch pockets.

When I sewed up the toile, it was far too baggy and didn’t look how I imagined it. So, I ended up making adjustments that added darts to the back and made it more fitted at the waist. So, in the end, I maybe could have used a pattern and hacked it. It has ended up being similar to the @tillyandthebuttons Olive dress or the @NinaLeeLondon Camden dress—but with a zip-up front.

I absolutely love how it turned out, and I loved doing some pattern cutting again.

My first @fabricgodmother Fleur dress, and it won’t be my last!

I made this is part of a Fabric Godmother sewing day where we all tried out the new pattern before release. I chose to make mine in the new Fabric Godmother tomato denim fabric. Unsure if it would work, but just love the print!

I made a size 12, but ended up unpicking and taking it in a bit to a size 10 at the bodice. It still has a size 12 skirt, as I’d already sewn all the pockets. The denim fabric makes it stick out a bit more, so I took it in for a slightly slimmer fit. Also with the stretch denim I just had to be careful when sewing the binding to the armholes so I didn’t stretch them, I did ever so slightly, but I don’t think it’s noticeable.

I love this dress, and I’m already making a blouse version and gave fabric for another blouse.

As soon as I saw this fabric on my photography table at @fabricgodmother I knew it had to be mine. It’s a perfect viscose and linen mix so it’s super drapey and soft.

I made the @spaghetti_western_sewing Henrietta skirt and I’m in love. This pattern is really fun to make, you only get two small pattern pieces and then a clever worksheet to calculate how to make the other pieces and extend the pieces you have. Once it’s all worked out it was a lovely quick sew and I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

I finally made something! A few of you might remem

I finally made something! A few of you might remember that a while ago, in my stories, I was trying to draft the perfect shorts.

I previously drafted a shorts pattern in 2017, but now, with my changing body and mindset, they were too short and too tight. I experimented with making them longer and slightly looser. I eventually added a sewn-down pleat by opening out the dart. I also added to the thigh area to give a more flared fit.

I now have the perfect summer shorts pattern. I’ve already made two pairs and a wearable toile. I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of them.

This pair is made using a lovely neon gingham check from @fabricgodmother

I was part of the testing for the new @tammy.handm

I was part of the testing for the new @tammy.handmade Gia dress. This is a great pattern as although it’s for knit fabrics it’s fully designed to be sewn on a regular machine. So really beginner friendly if you don’t have an over locker.

I used this beautiful pink and coral ribbed fabric from @fabricgodmother
I made a size 12 graded to a 10 at the hips as I wanted a looser fit, but next time I would probably go for a 10.
Also next time I would probably use some fusing in the straps as the rib fabric did tend to stretch slightly as I sewed.

The pattern is out today and Tammy has provided the code GIALAUNCH for 20% her whole website today.
